Jeremy Lin shows off his Mandarin at Taipei press conference
(CNA, August 14, 2013) —NBA star Jeremy Lin showed off his improved Chinese language skills at a press conference in Taipei on Wednesday by answering nearly all of the questions he faced in Mandarin.
NBA明星林書豪在星期三抵達台灣後的記者會上，面對媒體的眾多提問時，幾乎全部都用中文回答，展現他益發進步的中文能力。
Limited mostly to English except for a few basic phrases during his previous visits to Taiwan, Lin surprised reporters by relying much less than in the past on his native language, but his message still focused on his positive impression of the country.
在上回訪台的行程中，林書豪在回應媒體時除了使用些許基本中文字彙外，大部分都侷限在英文的表達上。這次林書豪反倒是比上回少用了很多英文，讓記者們感到驚訝，但他對於台灣仍舊是抱持著正面的印象。
"I'm so happy to come to Taiwan. Every year, Taiwan's media are very nice to me and the fans here are very passionate," the 24-year-old Lin, the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent, said in Mandarin.
「我很高興能回到台灣，台灣媒體、球迷都對我很好」。身為首位台灣後裔的NBA球員，24歲的林書豪用中文向大家問候。
"I'll do my best to answer all questions in Mandarin, and if I don't know how to say something, I'll use English," he pledged.
林書豪向大家保證，「我會盡可能用中文回答所有的問題，而在我不知道要怎麼說的情況下，才會用英文回應」。
Lin said he has spent a good deal of time practicing Mandarin over the past year by working with a Taiwanese tutor via the Internet every day.
林書豪表示，他在過去的一年中花了好些時間練習中文，練習的方式則是每天都從網路上和一位台籍的中文老師學習。
He even held up a long sheet of vocabulary and phrases he's trying to learn in Mandarin that shows their equivalents in Hanyu pinyin, a phonetic system used to romanize Chinese characters.
他甚至拿出一張長長的中文單字及片語表，展示他試著用漢語拼音，一種將中文文字轉為發音系統的方法來找出中文字的對應拼音，以學習中文。
Lin arrived in Taiwan earlier Wednesday at the start of an eight-day visit and was greeted by enthusiastic fans at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
林書豪在星期三早上抵達台灣並展開為期八天的行程，他一到達台灣桃園國際機場就有許多熱請粉絲要迎接他的到來。
During his visit, Lin will attend charity and endorsement events arranged by his sponsors and take part in an evangelical gathering Aug. 18.
在他的訪台行程中，林書豪將會參加由贊助商安排的慈善以及代言活動，並參加八月十八日的一場基督教佈道會。
The Harvard graduate and his friend, Rockets forward Chandler Parsons, will also co-host a basketball camp for Taiwanese high school and college students Aug. 18-20.
這位哈佛畢業生與他的朋友，同在火箭隊的前鋒Chandler Parsons，將在八月十八到二十號間共同主持給台灣高中與大學生參加的籃球訓練營。
He is scheduled to leave Taiwan for China Aug. 21.
林書豪預計在八月廿一號離開台灣並前往中國。
